Rules and Regulations
Revised January 7, 2021
FIREARMS & SAFETY
1.) No fully automatic or class 3 firearms allowed on any Pistol, Rifle or Shotgun
Range at Horry WLA. This also includes any action that simulates a Full
Automatic during firing, i.e. slam fire or hellfire actions.
2.) No shooting of any rifle, pistol or shotgun over the berms.
3.) No shotguns allowed on Pistol or Rifle ranges, with only the following exceptions:
a. Shotguns may be used on Pistol Berm 8.
b. Shotguns, shooting slug ammunition only, can be used on the rifle range.
c. Any member caught firing a shotgun at a Pistol or Rifle backstop (the wooden
target frame) or berm (other than those specified in a & b above) will be subject
to automatic loss of Horry WLA Membership.
d. Anyone using a shotgun subject to exception a & b, must not shoot over the
berm.
Shotguns can only be fired on the Trap / Skeet Ranges, Rifle Range, Pistol Berm
8, or at the Shotgun Patterning Area. Pistols and Rifles may not be used in
designated Shotgun Only Areas (which are the Trap/ Skeet ranges and the
shotgun patterning area)
4.) No explosive, armor piercing, or incendiary ammunition (i.e. tracer ammo) is to be
used on Chapter property.
5.) If your Firearm is not holstered the firearm action must be in the opened position
and barrel pointed in a safe direction. Example: When a handgun, rifle or shotgun
are not in use and placed on the bench in a staging area. No handling of firearms or
ammo while anyone is downrange.
6.) Rifle range may only be shot at ranges of 50 and 100 yards, and into back stop.
7.) Eye and ear protection required for anyone inside fence area at pistol or rifle bays
and Trap / Skeet Ranges and Shotgun Patterning area. At the 100-yard Rifle bay and
the 8 pistol bays, shoot only from inside berm. No berm, no shoot. At the Trap and
Skeet Range, no pistol or rifle shooting is allowed (no berms).
8.) As you enter the grounds, the Pioneer Village is on the left. Absolutely no discharges
of firearms are permitted in this area. Also during Pioneer Events there will be no
OPEN CARRY on Horry WLA Property. Concealed carry is acceptable.
9.) Persons under age 18 must have adult (Parent or Guardian) supervision.
10.) All range users are personally responsible for their actions and that of their
guests.
11.) During special events, the facility will be closed except for use by the special
event and it’s participants.
TARGETS
1.) Shoot into back stops only. All targets must be placed at least one (1) foot from
edges on all wood backboards.
2.) No unauthorized targets ( example: cans, bottles, or exploding targets, etc.) No
shooting at target frames.
3.) After shooting please remove used targets, empty bottles and any other trash in the
Pistol or Rifle Range area. Even if you did not leave a mess, please check the area
and correct any deficiency.
4.) Authorized targets are any paper targets which are generally used for target
practice. For example: a target downloaded from the internet from an NRA site,
silhouette targets, paper plates, or your own metal targets which you remove after
shooting. The examples given above are only a partial listing, If you are
unsure of a target you wish to use, contact the current President or a Board
Member for clarification. Remember remove your used targets from the
range upon completion of your target practice and police your used brass.
5.) The Steel Targets (when set up) in Bays 1-2-3 are the property of SASS
(Cowboy Action) and are not to be used by anyone else. SASS reserves the listed
Bays and pays a fee for their use. If you are shooting in one of those Bays on the day
designated for SASS activity SASS has the right to ask you to stop shooting and move
to another open Bay not used by SASS. You may bring your own steel targets for
practice and take them with you when you are finished shooting.
ACCESS, FEES AND RANGE TIMES
1.) New members who join WLA, must take the orientation course and come to a
meeting and obtain a Gate Key for $50.00. For access to Property a Key is needed
for entry. If you loan your key to anyone else, you lose your key. Anyone who
takes the range orientation class has the opportunity to acquire a key. Do not open
the gate for anyone (even another member) who does not have a key.
2.) Upon arrival at WLA property, unlock gate, enter property, then stop and re-lock
gate. If shooting the skeet and trap match on Tues., Thurs., or Sunday, sign in at
that location. If shooting pistol or rifle, go to the Resource Education Center, sign in
(in the duck box next to REC door) and pay Range fee as shown below:

Member $2.00
Non-member $5.00
Trap/ Skeet Range Fees per round:
Trap/Skeet- Member $3.50
Trap/ Skeet- Non-member $5.00
Pre-Scheduled Group Activities:
Facilities fee: $100 minimum fee for up to 20 people.
$ 5 per head for more than 20 people.
Plus:
Trap/Skeet fee: $4.00 per person per round
RANGE FEE SCHEDULE (effective after June 21, 2021)

3.) Range fee payment should be placed in envelope with (name and date on it) and
the envelope should be placed in the black, steel box on the concrete next to REC
door (under the duck box)
4.) Range times are as follows:
Jan. 1 through August 31 - 9 AM until dark
Sept. 1 through Dec. 31 - 9 AM until 4 PM
(except Tues. and Thurs. which remains
9 AM until dark )
5.) Locks are changed on meeting day in January of every calendar year. Keys are
available beginning in January after the locks are changed. Members in good
standing must appear in person to sign for their key, return their old key, and remit
a $50, non-refundable fee. Keys are individually assigned and may not be loaned.
6.) Only those members designated by the board (such as board members, range
officers, and members with assigned maintenance responsibilities) will be issued
keys to the skeet and trap houses.
GENERAL RULES
1.) Respect all WLA property. No climbing on berms, fences, etc.
2.) Possession and/or use of alcohol or drugs on Chapter property are prohibited. Any
member found in violation will be subject to review by the ethics board and if
found in violation subject to a fine or loss of membership.
3.) Any violation of these rules, disregard of range safety or abuse of facilities may
result in revocation of key and membership.
4.) When at Wildlife Action, be and treat others as ladies and gentlemen. Be a goodwill
ambassador of WLA.
5.) Interpersonal conflicts will not be tolerated.
6.) No pets in building. Pets outside must be leashed and you must clean up after
them.
7.) Anything that you bring in, you must take out. In other words, take your trash with
you.
8.) If a situation arises that is not covered in the above Rules and Regulations it
will be brought before the Board of Directors for a Decision. Disagreements
may be brought before the Grievance Committee for review and
recommendations. The decision of the Board of Directors is final and the
recommendations of the Board will enacted.
